Description
This is a beautiful and rare set of five vintage metal cordial or shot cups. The cups are small and tapered, and appear to be made from a brass with silver-toned metal “nickel silver” which has developed a rich, dark patina. Each cup is intricately decorated with two distinct, ornate scenes: one side features a detailed mosque or Islamic architectural scene with domes and arches, and the reverse side displays detailed floral and botanical patterns. The decoration is executed using a distinctive technique of small dots and etched lines, giving the imagery a unique texture. These cups are characteristic of traditional decorative metalwork from the Middle East or South Asia and would have been used for serving strong coffee/tea. They make an exceptional, unique addition to a stunning piece of Orientalist decor.
