In Tripoli, Lebanon, the Cinema Empire was a historically significant cinema that closed over 30 years ago, according to Tiro Association For Arts. Built in 1932, it was one of the first cinemas in Tripoli and once attracted major music celebrities like Umm Kalthoum and Mohamed Abdel Wahab. The Arab Weekly reports that it was part of a cluster of five historic cinemas in Tripoli’s Tell Square, which was later rebuilt as the Lebanese National Theater. The Arab Weekly also mentions that the square is home to a clock tower donated by Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
